2018 Battle of the Bands
November 1, 2018

NAIOP Charlotte hosted its third annual Battle of the Bands on Thursday, November 1st and it was a hit! This commercial real estate fundraising event benefitted The Harvest Center. Three bands battled it out for the title of Best Band at the year’s premier networking event. Great food, drinks and music.

Many thanks to Grievous Angels, Shelley Ruffin and Soul Revival, and Southside Watt for their outstanding performances! Congratulations to Southside Watt who took home the trophy this year!

We are appreciative of all of our partners in success – planning committee volunteers, sponsors, emcee, jury members and attendees – with your support, NAIOP Charlotte was able to donate $7,500 to The Harvest Center plus an additional $1,000 from raffles. We couldn’t have done it without all of your help.

Expect the unexpected from our
defending champs! Local Charlotte
band comprised of members Joe
Ciarlante, Tim Farney, Richard McDevitt,
Reid Cathcart, Jim Gamble and Alicia
Akima R Driver.

Shelley Ruffin and Soul Revival is an acoustic/soul/blues combo that provides
music spanning many genres and eras. The
core of the group is the smooth, soulful sound
of Shelley Ruffin, a Memphis, Tennessee
native and accomplished Nashville recording
artist. Accompanying is her husband, Rick
Ruffin, on bass and Jay Henson on
acoustic guitar.

Roots, Rock, Blues, Rap, and Country influences
merged together to form a toe tapping and head
bobbing show you have to see! When brothers
and friends starting combining their decades
of musical performance and passion, Southside
Watt was born!

A portion of the event proceeds will benefit The Harvest Center.

The Mission of The Harvest Center is to create an environment where Jesus Christ transforms members of our community to their full potential by providing food, clothing, housing, education, counseling, and recovery services.

The Harvest Center meets both emergency needs for food and shelter as well as long term needs through their transformational program. They serve over 1,000 of Charlotte’s homeless and low-income individuals every week, offering hot meals and giving out clothing and blankets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Their Food Pantry distributed groceries to over 30,000 individuals in 2011 and was the largest recipient of food from Second Harvest Food Bank. The food and clothing ministry attract clients to The Harvest Center, where they are then able to develop relationships of trust and care so that the transformation process can begin. The Transformation Program provides temporary housing, counseling, job skills training, literacy and GED preparation assistance to its participants. Learn more.
