Developing Leaders Mentorship Program

Booking Starts Wednesday, February 3 at 9 am ET 

The Mentorship Program provides a special forum exclusively for Developing Leaders to book 1-hour sessions with selected industry leaders.

There are 100+ sessions between 22 Mentors for the 2021 program.

Note: You must check the box indicating you have read and agree to the Mentee's Terms & Conditions. If this box is unchecked, you will not be able to book meetings with Mentors.

Important Reminders:

  • Sessions are booked on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • You may book meetings with up to three (3) Mentors.
  • Each session must be booked with a different Mentor, you may not book multiple sessions with the same Mentor.
  • Mentees and Mentors will be responsible for deciding to meet in person or virtually. Both parties must agree to meet in person.
  • The system does not send booking notices to you or the Mentors. Instead, click 'My Sessions' in the top menu. This personalized page stores everything about the Mentors and session dates you chose.
  • You are responsible for directly contacting your selected Mentors to finalize meeting arrangements (time and location).
  • Use the authorized contact information on your 'My Sessions' page. You may not contact Mentors other than your selected Mentors listed in 'My Sessions'.
  • Be sure to read the 'Mentoring Matches' and 'How Mentees & Mentors Connect' pages on the mentorship site for tips to optimize the experience and help you understand how this program works.

Lawmakers Present Bipartisan Coronavirus Relief Bill

A bipartisan group of senators unveiled details of their coronavirus relief package yesterday, representing lawmakers’ latest push to move an aid bill before year’s end. The proposal is comprised of two separate bills: the first contains roughly $750 billion for education, unemployment benefits, vaccine distribution, and other funds, while the second provides $160 billion in state and local aid, as well as liability protections for businesses. The latter provisions have proven contentious and were frequently cited as key reasons for holding up earlier negotiations.

Opportunity Zone Updates: 2020 and Beyond

Recent clarifications didn’t significantly change the law, but investors should be aware of these modifications.

The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act introduced tax benefits to incentivize investment in specially designated zones (Qualified Opportunity Zones, or QOZs) in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories. The Opportunity Zone laws generated buzz because, among other benefits, they allowed qualified projects held for at least 10 years to exclude capital gains upon sale.

NAIOP Charlotte Elects 2021 Board of Directors at 2020 Annual Meeting

NAIOP Charlotte, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, held its annual meeting on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, where they elected the 2021 Board of Directors. ­­­­This year’s virtual Annual Meeting featured a panel of industry leaders including Nate Doolittle from LandDesign, Phil Kuttner from LITTLE, Brendan Pierce from Crescent Communities, and Scott Wilson from Childress Klein Properties. The panel provided market updates and overviews on commercial real estate in Charlotte and noted the 2040 Comp Plan, the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), and Charlotte Moves and their impact on the future of commercial real estate development.
